Camp Discover
July 9, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
School is out and summer fun has begun! The Forest Heritage Center Museum will be hosting Camp Discover: Art of the Forest, a children’s day camp, July 9-11 from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM for children ages 9-11. Camp Discover provides children with a fun-filled, education experience designed to familiarize the children with the many facets of forestry that is sure to be the highlight of their summer.
The theme for this year’s camp will be “Tree Detectives”. Campers will use the clues offered by trees to learn about the world around them with a discovery walk on the Tree Trail, educational activities, and tree-themed arts and crafts. “Our goal for camp this year is to spark the desire to learn more, inspire creativity, and open the eyes of children to the amazing world around them,” says Calista Stephens, the camp’s director.
The location of the Forest Heritage Center in beautiful Beaver’s Bend State Park is the perfect setting to learn about the forest, with over 50 species of trees within a 1 mile radius. During the three days, campers will learn about some of the qualities that give trees personality and make each species unique. They’ll learn that trees depend on water, wildlife, and good soil and about what trees give back to make the environment healthier.
Registration is $20 and includes all art supplies/materials, daily snacks, lunch and a Camp Discover t-shirt. Applications are available online at: www.forestry.ok.gov/camp-discover or by calling 580-494-6497. Registration deadline is Friday, June 21, 2019.
This program is made possible in part by Oklahoma Forestry Services, the Oklahoma Arts Council, the Forest Heritage Center Advisory Board and staff.
